Recommended Wiring Harness for Towing 5th-Wheel Trailer Behind 2012 Ford F-250
Question:
I have a 2012 F-250 with the stock 7 pole plug under the bumper. I will be towing a 5th wheel. I plan to run the wire harness under the tailgate to the factory plug under the bumper. So I will need an extension from the plug on the trailer wire harness to the truck plug under the bumper. Do you see any issue with my plan? And, do you have an extention to serve this purpose?

I think you may be looking for something like the Draw-Tite 7-Way Connector 7 Ft Loop # 20027. This extension will allow you to run the harness under the tailgate like you mentioned in your question. However, I do not recommend doing this as running the wires under the tailgate will leave them exposed and possibly lead to them being damaged.
I instead recommend using the Pollak 5th Wheel/Gooseneck T-Connector with 7-Pole # PK11893-11932. This socket will plug into the OEM harness and once installed, will actually provide a 7-pole trailer connector in the bed of your truck. This will allow for simple and easy hookup with your trailer. No splicing will be required during installation.
I have attached the installation details as well as a helpful installation video on your vehicle for you to check out.
