Adjustment of Brakes & Initial Setup of Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller 90195
Question:
Hello I have a question I read on here where all you guys say to adjust brake controller until wheels lock up then back off slightly. But on my fifth wheel camper I cannot get the brakes to lock up. What do you do in a situation like that. They used to lock up but since I bought this p3 they dont anymore they randomly locked up once last year on one camping trip but the rest of the trips would not lock up any suggestions? It seems like anything set above 6 V the brakes get hot traveling even at six theyre pretty warm but Im afraid to go any lower or it wont stop

The ideal situation for your 5th wheel braking performance is that you would find the power and boost settings that allow maximum braking power without the trailer wheels locking up. This is the point of maximum braking force. It is certainly not unusual that the P3 # 90195 could initially feel different than your old controller. The P3's set-up instructions are linked for you.
It may also be that your brakes now simply require an adjustment to their pad pressure, using the star wheel at the bottom 6-o-clock side of the brake assembly. This could be the cause for heat. The star wheel can be adjusted using tool # W80630. If you cannot adjust the brakes to get them to the lock-up point I recommend having them inspected by a qualified technician.
