For your 2013 Ford Escape, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75758. This is an easy install and will give you a versatile hitch compatible with the vast majority of bike racks. This installation will take a professional shop about 20-30 minutes and anyone slightly mechanical to install in about 40 minutes if you choose to install yourself. This is a durable hitch that will restrict your hands free liftgate if installed to the sides of the receiver opening.
If you will be using this hitch for any towing in the future, I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM11140514. This is a plug and play system that will connect to your factory wiring behind the tail lights of your vehicle. You will need to run a power lead from the battery for the modulite. This will protect your vehicle wiring from overload and give you a 4-way flat connection for standard trailer wiring.
For a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black # BWTS10037B. This will give you an adjustable ball mount to allow you to tow different trailers level. It comes with a 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch hitch ball and has a really nice stowing feature when not in use for a clean look. It also removes it from accidentally hitting your shin when loading or unloading cargo.
