Question:
I want to tow a small boat trailer with my 2012 Toureag TDI. no problem on weight capacity: Toureag can handle 7700 and the boat and trailer are only 2500. Question is how to hook up the trailer break lights as there is no connection visible.

You will need just a few things to tow your small boat trailer with your 2012 Volkswagen Touareg and power the trailer's brake lights.
First, if you do not already have a trailer hitch installed on your Touareg, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75950. This hitch has a towing weight capacity of 7,500 pounds and a 750 pound tongue weight capacity. I have attached the installation details for you to check out.
Next, for powering the trailer's signal lights, you will just need to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118668 since the vehicle does not have a factory 4-way connector. This will allow you to quickly install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle. The T-One connector will plug directly into existing wiring.
If your trailer has electric brakes, you will also need to install the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 to control them with your Touareg. This will include everything that is needed to install a trailer brake controller and 7-way connector.
Then for a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is a great proportional brake controller that will activate your trailer's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your vehicle. This controller is compatible with both electric and electric over hydraulic brakes.
