My contact at Draw-Tite confirmed that their Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 76034, is compatible with the foot activated gate on your 2016 Ford Explorer. He did mentioned that it will not be as sensitive, and you will need to kick your foot as if you were kicking a football instead of just waving your foot underneath the bumper.
If you are needing to add a wiring harness to the rear of your Explorer, I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118540 for a 4-Pole option or the Tekonsha T-One Wiring Adapter # 118272 for a 7-Way option.
