Recommended Parts Needed For 2006 Acura MDX To Tow A Small Hot Dog Cart
Question:
Hi. I am looking to put a hitch on my 2006 acura mdx to be able to tow a small hot dog cart. I would like to purchase everything I need from you as I found your help video very professionally done and I appreciate that! Can you please tell me what parts I would need to purchase for my mechanic friend to install a hitch that could tow a cart that has a 5/8inch ball opening on it? Appreciate any help and info.

Normally, a trailer has a coupler and the coupler slips over the hitch ball that is installed on a ball mount that slips into the trailer hitch receiver opening on the towing vehicle. I can make some recommendations that are designed to work like that but am not sure what the hot dog cart has to attach it to your Acura.
For a trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame, part # 75599. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. I attached a link to an installation video for this trailer hitch.
The ball mount I recommend is part # AMSC2. This ball mount has a 3/4-inch rise or a 2-inch drop. It uses a hitch ball with a 1-inch shank like part # 63845 for a 2-inch ball or part # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch diameter hitch ball.
If you do not have a trailer connector you will need part # 118336. I have attached a link to an installation video for the trailer harness on an MDX you can check out. When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
As far as the hot dog cart, You will need a trailer tongue with a coupler attached to be able to tow it behind your MDX. A trailer coupler will typically have the trailer ball size it will work with stamped on it somewhere. You will also need lights on the cart so that you can tow it legally. It will also need to be licensed and have a trailer license plate.
If you want to send me some photos of the cart I can see if we have the items you will need to be able to tow it. Also, if you do have a trailer coupler on the cart send a photo of that and if it has a trailer connector for the lights on the trailer send a shot of that as well.
