Expert Reply:
A semi-custom-fit roof rack like the cost-effective SportRack # SR1002 will not be secure enough on the roof of your 2005 Acura TL to allow safely transporting a 14-foot kayak. Since this rack is designed to fit on many different vehicles, its fit on any given one will not be as secure as a custom rack that is designed for your specific vehicle.
I recommend a custom rack like the Rhino-Rack # RR34YR which will be more secure on the car, quieter at highway speeds and safer for your kayak. On this rack you can use one of the kayak carriers shown on the linked page. All of these carriers fit the elliptical bars of the Rhino-Rack.
Another option is to skip to roof rack entirely and use a foam block type kayak carrier right on the car's bare roof - no roof rack required. If you are doing mostly local driving with the kayak then this option is by far the most cost-effective. All foam block kayak carriers are shown on the other linked page, such as the Malone Deluxe # MPG152.
It is a good idea to confirm the weight of the kayak to ensure it is not heavier than the maximum weight the car's roof can handle. And the two linked articles will help you with your rack and kayak carrier selection.
