Recommended 5th-Wheel Hitch Height on 2014 Ram 2500 for Eclipse Attitude Toy Hauler
Question:
Hi, I have a 2014 ram 2500 mega cab truck with out the factory hitch prep. I know I will need a 16k slider hitch but I see there are hitches that have height adjustment from 14 to 17 inches and some are 17 to 21. We are looking at buying a new 28ft eclipse attitude toy hauler, would you know what hitch would work for the truck? Thanks

The different height adjustments on the Sliding 5th-Wheel Hitches that are compatible with your 2014 Ram 2500 are needed to make the trailer you are towing as level as possible. If you are concerned about the trailer being level, there is a simple measurement you can take to determine exactly the height you will need.
If you can, I recommend driving your Ram 2500 up to the trailer dealer where the Eclipse Attitude Toy Hauler is and taking this measurement. First you will want to make sure the trailer is level. Then you will park your truck under the 5th-wheel as if you were going to hook up for towing. Take a measurement from the the top of the truck bed to the base of the pin box on the trailer. This will give you the measurement needed to select an appropriate height range of your 5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch.
If you are unable to travel to the trailer dealer, another option is obtain a measurement from the ground to the pin box of the trailer while it is level. You can ask your trailer dealer for this measurement. Then you can measure how high above the ground the floor of your truck bed is. You will simply subtract your truck measurement from the trailer measurement to get the same distance as the first method.
I recommend the Curt A16 5th WHeel Trailer Hitch # C16521 along with the Custom Installation Kit # C16427-204. This has a hitch height of 17-1/2 inches to 21-1/2 inches and a gross towing weight of 16,000 pounds. It features a nice interlocking 2-jaw system that will provide a 360-degree jaw-to-king-pin contact, minimizing rattle and enhancing security. I also really like the fully articulating torsion head which will result in a stable, quiet ride. I have attached a video review of this hitch for you to check out.
I also recommend adding a 5th-Wheel Wiring Harness like the Curt # C56000. Once installed, this will provide a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck for easy hookup with your trailer.
