Recommended Fastway Weight Distribution For 2017 Jayco Jay Flight 195RB Trailer

Question:

We have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cyl without the tow package. We are considering using this vehicle for our tow vehicle to pull a 2017 Jayco Jay Flight 195RB (3500 GW). We need a hitch for the Jeep and also need to have a 7 pin harness and a weight distribution system.

For your 2006 Buick Rainier and your 2017 Jayco Jay Flight 195RB, the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # FA94-00-0600 may be sufficient, however, I recommend bumping up to the # FA94-00-0800. This system will give you the same minimum tongue weight, but will allow for up to an 800 lb tongue weight. Based on the specs for your trailer, if you were loaded to capacity you could have a trailer tongue weight of up to 525 lbs, and that would not include the cargo behind the rear axle of your Buick that also goes into the total tongue weight of a weight distribution system. The 800 lb system will give you the capacity you may need and won't run your system at max capacity all the time. It is ideal to stay around the middle of that weight range, so stepping up to the 800 lb capacity makes sense.

You will need a hitch ball with this system. I recommend the # EQ91-00-6080 for a 2 inch ball or # 63840 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.

For your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13182. for your wiring I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 5-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56515. To upgrade this to a working 7 way, you will need the Universal Wiring For Brake Controller # ETBC7. This will give you the wiring needed to connect a 4-way in which the 5 way will work exluding the reverse function that you will tap into for your 7-way. You will get the wires, connectors, and circuit breakers needed with this kit. All that you will then need is a brake controller like # 90195. For your weight distribution, you can use the same system # FA94-00-0800 I recommended for your other vehicle. All of the recommendations there still apply.
