Reverse Light Circuit Not Active On 2013 Ram Tradesman When Installing Back-Up Camera

Question:

Hi. Ive installed the Hopkins Smart hitch into my Ram 2013 Tradesman Crew Cab. I double checked all of the places it plugs in and made sure they are secure. I checked the power at my 7 way and I dont get power at the center pole when placed into reverse. I can hook up my camper and plug in and I get lights just as I should. I need help figuring out why Im not getting any power at the center pole. Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks

It sounds like the reverse light circuit was not connected to the 7-way trailer connector on your 2013 Ram. On most vehicles this circuit is active but not always. This is probably the issue on your truck.

You would need to run a wire from the center pin to the reverse light circuit of your taillight wiring to activate this circuit. You can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to help locate the wire that only shows power when the vehicle is in reverse.
