Recommended Weight Distribution System For Trailer With 600-lb Tongue Weight When Empty

Question:

Which Equalizer do you suggest for a 2011 Keystone Hideout 29.11 ft total length travel trailer. Hitch weight 600 lbs Unloaded weight 5183 lbs Pulling with ford f250 super duty truck. not sure if 90-00-0600 or -1000 is correct for my set up. I dont want to under or over spec the sway control hitch. Also should I consider an 18inch shank for more back turning radius?

The best way to determine what system will work for you is to know what your total tongue weight is. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully-loaded-ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You will then want to find a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range for the system. Getting a system that is too small will be useless, but getting a system that is too big will result in a stiff, uncomfortable experience.

If your tongue weight is 600-lbs for your unloaded trailer I would estimate about 200 additional lbs when the trailer is loaded. For that I recommend a system like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System, part # EQ37100ET. this system has 4-point sway control and uses no-drill clamp-on brackets.

If you find you need an 18-inch shank for your system to get more turning clearance, I recommend part # EQ90-02-4500.

It is also recommended to use a thin-walled socket like part # EQ70-00-4800 for the hitch ball installation.
