Available Lippert 5th Wheel Trailer Shock Absorber Kits

Question:

I recently had a MOR/Ryde SRE 4000 system added to my 2002 Carriage Cameo LXI 5th Wheel. This increased the distance between the axle and the frame which meant the stock shocks could no longer be used. I would like to add aftermarket shocks, but only need the shocks as the mounting brackets are already present. The mounts are about 14 inches apart - can you help me?

Expert Reply:

We offer two heavy-duty trailer oil shock kits from Lippert, who makes most of the RV frames in use. Those kits are designed for either 3-inch axle tubes, part # LC281281, or for 2-3/8-inch axle tubes, part # LC281255. Both kits include mounting brackets. The shocks in both kits measure 13-1/2-inches long when extended.

If your 8,000 lb axles have a 3 inch diameter then the Lippert Components Bolt-On Shock Kit w/ Heavy Duty Gas Shocks # LC281281 would work. Most 8k axles are a 3-1/2 inch diameter, so you'd need a different kit like the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 8,000-lb Axle # RM-2470. This is my recommendation for your trailer.
