Yes, you can just get brackets and hardware without the rails for your 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 short bed. Industry standard rails will either have bolt holes for a 4-bolt installation or holes for a 10-bolt installation. To get you the right parts we just have to match the type of rail you have to the right bracket kit. I have included pictures showing 4- and 10-bolt rail designs that will help.

If you know the manufacturer of the rails that will help too. Generally we don't recommend mixing rails from one company and brackets from another even though they will likely be compatible. They just haven't been tested together. But if you don't know the manufacturer of the rails then we'll go with the most likely option.

If you have 10-bolt rails then I recommend bracket and hardware kit # C16420. It comes with custom brackets and the hardware to install them as well as the hardware to attach the rails to the brackets. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you.

If you have 4-bolt rails you could use custom brackets and hardware # HT31413. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation using these brackets as well. No matter which type of rails you have, we have an option!

How are you fixed for a hitch? Because if you need one I recommend the Demco HiJacker 18K auto-slider # DM8550034. These hitches are becoming very popular because they have a good amount of travel, 14 inches, to help with clearance between the truck cab and trailer when turning. And they slide automatically meaning you won't have to get out of the truck to manually operate a slider. If you're interested I have included a link to a video review of the HiJacker for you.
