Troubleshooting Thule Snow Chain # TH01221090 Installation on a 2005 Scion tc

Question:

I bought these chains, size 090, for my scion tc 2005 which has p215/45R17 tires. According to the chart, 090 was the correct model to get. But after receiving them, they do not fit correctly - I cannot get the tension arm to reach the second hook, much less the final hook point on the chain. So I wanted to know the correct model to get instead of the 090.

For your 2005 Scion tc with p215/45R17 tires the Standard Snow Tire Chains for Passenger Vehicles by Thule - CB12 - Size 090, part # TH01221090, is the correct size for your tire.

I spoke with our installer (the guy you see in the installation video I attached below) and he said you may be encountering a couple different problems.

The first thing he said to try was to take the chains and lay them out, and look for any tangles, and make sure that none of the chains are twisted up at all.

Next, he said to make sure that when you are trying to install the chains that you make sure they are not getting caught on any thing behind the wheel and that they are being pulled all the way around before you attempt to attach the hooks.

He also mentioned that if you are trying to install these chains in snowy conditions to make sure that no snow is being caught between the chains and the tire, as this might interfere with your ability to install these chains.

I attached an FAQ article on Thule snow chains below that you might find informative.
