Where on Tow Vehicle to Install Trailer Breakaway Cable
Question:
Hi - my friends have been snapping their cable to inevif the trailer safety chains. Another says incorrect and that the cable should be a snap directly to the loop on the frame of the back of the truck under the bumper, not on the chain. He said if the chain breaks, then of course the trailer break will not be engaged. Whats your call?

The cable on a trailer breakaway kit such as the Hopkins Engager # 20099 should not be attached to the trailer safety chains but rather it should be connected to the vehicle bumper or frame. Please refer to the linked articles for more on breakaway systems and their installation.
