Recommended Rooftop Cargo Basket for 2008 Jeep Commander

Are all roof Cargo Baskets universal???? I have a 2008 Jeep Commander and I would like to purchase a cargo basket. Can you make a suggestion or advise??? Thanks.

No, not all rooftop cargo baskets are universal-fit products. Some baskets will require a specific front-to-back crossbar spread; other baskets may use mounting hardware that will only fit a certain range of crossbar dimensions (width and height). A good start is to measure your bar dimensions and spacing.

For instance, the Rhino-Rack # RMCB will fit to any crossbars up to 3-1/2-inches wide x 1-1/2-inches tall, and so long as the center-to-center bar spread is between 21- and 30-inches. This basket weighs only 31-lbs so it will not use up too much of your Commander's roof weight capacity, a good thing.

On the other hand, the Curt basket you referenced, part # C18115, requires that your two crossbars have a center-to-center spacing of one of three specific dimensions, 15-, 22- or 29-inches.

With either option, you may care to add a cargo net like # RLN1-RTD4 to help secure your cargo.

Often users of rooftop cargo carriers will add an inexpensive folding step such as # TE97FR from Telesteps. This lightweight step gives you almost a foot of extra reach to ease loading and unloading your cargo.
