Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring When Prodigy P3 Shows No Trailer Connected

Question:

On my 2012 Crossroads Zinger travel trailer the breaks dont work at all. I have the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 break controller and know that everything on my SUV works as tried on another RV travel trailer where breaks work fine on same SUV. When I plug in the the Zinger trailer the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 is not even aware that a trailer is plugged in. My amps on 4 breaks is less the 7 when I do a test as per and article I found on this site. Where should I start? Is it possible that all magnetic fail at the same time?

You will want to do some troubleshooting on the trailer as it sounds like the problem is definitely there. First inspect the trailer connector to make sure it is free of corrosion or dirt and that the pins are all okay. Look for any signs of broken kinked or damaged wires on the trailer and fix as needed.

Then use a 12V battery and a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the trailer connector. Finally, as the attached helpful article says check the brake magnets and replace any work or damaged components.
