2016 Toyota Tacoma Trailer Wiring and Brake Controller Wiring Recommendation
Question:
My Tacoma comes with a brake controller adapter, but does not have the factory trailer connector. If I install part # C56282 will it still utilize the brake controller, or will I have to hard wire. What is the recommendation?

Since you do not have trailer wiring at all on your 2016 Toyota Tacoma you would need to first start with the part # C56349 that you referenced. Then to convert a 7-way and install the controller you would need the part # ETBC7.
If you test the pins of the brake controller install port on your vehicle and two of the pins carry voltage (one all the time and other other only when brakes are applied), you can use an install harness part # 3031-P to make the install a bit easier. Basically you would plug it in and then cut the blue wire out of the harness and run it back to the 7-way with the included 10 gauge wire of the kit.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.
