Recommended Replacement Spring Bars To Accommodate Lighter Trailer
Question:
I currently have equalizer hitch rated 12000# 1200#tw looking to use on trailer that is only going to be in the range of 6000-6500# load. I can still use that hitch for that trailer or are the spring bars going to be to rigged for that setup. If so will buying replacement bars rated for lower weight work ok.

Your weight distribution system, # EQ37120ET, is rated for a total tongue weight of 800-1200 lbs. That total tongue weight is the loaded tongue weight of your trailer as well as any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. I've attached an article on trailer tongue weight to help. If you are at 15% of tongue weight you'll be in that range, but lighter would be a rough ride. I recommend using a scale like # e99044 to determine your actual loaded weight. I've attached an article to help.
It sounds like your system may be too rigid for this trailer, so I recommend replacing your spring bars with the Replacement Spring Bars for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems - Qty 2 - 1,000 lbs TW # EQ90-01-1099. This will change your capacity for total tongue weight to range between 600-1000 lbs. This will allow you to have a much smoother ride.
