Since you have the factory tow package on your 2012 Frontier, I recommend the Prodigy P3, part # 90195 along with the plug-in adapter, part # 3050-P. This is one of our most popular brake controllers because it is easy to install and operate.
Since you said you do not have the 7-way connector on your Frontier you will need a jumper harness, part # 118266. The 7-way plugs into the vehicle harness located behind the driver's-side rear bumper. This kit gives you all of the necessary harnesses and relays that you will need for a fully functioning 7-way trailer connector.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
