Is Weight Distribution System Maximum Weight Or Minimum Weight Better?

Question:

Thank you for the two suggestions. I am concerned, when the trailer 2017 Jayco 195RB Jay Flight SLX and car 2016 Honda Odyssey are loaded for the weekend or for a week, the smaller wd hitch Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 4K GTW, 400 TW, # 66557 will be at its load limit. Is it better to be at the hitchs maximum vs moving up to a heavier hitch at its minimum? What difference will it make on handling, ride, etc.? Thanks.

You definitely don't want to be at the constant max capacity of a system. You want to be within the middle of the range when fully loaded for an ideal set-up. If you think your total tongue weight of your loaded trailer tongue along with any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2016 Honda Odyssey will be around the 400lb capacity of the # 66557, then I highly recommend you move to a larger system with the # RP66558 which has a range of 400-600 lbs total tongue weight. You will need a hitch ball for this system. I recommend the # 63845 for a 2 inch ball or the # 63847 for a 2-5/16 inch option.

If you are at the minimum capacity for a system if you were to go with an even larger system, you would have a more rigid ride and could have trailer bounce. Try to stay in the middle of the weight range for the best results.
