For your 2004 Ford Explorer the best way to pick out a transmission cooler is to go with the largest one you can fit in front of your radiator. A very popular option is the part # D13503 which measures 11" Wide x 8-3/4" tall x 7/8" deep. You will want to use the fitting part # D13025 to make installing the cooler a bit easier.

You will want to run the fluid through your factory cooler and then to the supplemental cooler to maximize the cooling effect.
