Recommended Wiring For 7-Way Trailer Connector And Brake Controller For 2003 Chevy S-10
Question:
I got good answers from Jameson C regarding 2003 S-10 that I recenlty purchased, but guess I need to see what else is already in the truck. Definitely was no controller left with it, but havent checked under dash to see if one had been there. It doesnt make sense that someone had the 4/7 Hopkins trailer connections if they didnt have intentions of hauling a larger trailer and having brake controls...or does it? Anyway, thanks to all.

If there wasn't a connector left under the dash of your 2003 Chevy S-10, they may have used a 7 way connector to just give the 4 way functions without running the other wires. That would allow them to pull a trailer with a 7-way plug without utilizing the brakes on the trailer.
To tow a trailer with brakes, you will need to add at least the additional brake controller function along with power to that controller unit. I recommend using the # 5506 to make all the functions live for your trailer connection.
I prefer to recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195, because I really like the LCD screen and the ability to know immediately what issues may be going on with a quick glance. It is an upgraded version of the Prodigy P2 # 90885 that Jameson recommended.
