Recommended Tire Chains for 2013 BMW X5 with Tire Size P255/55-18
Question:
Occasional use snow chains for my BMW Tire size 255-55-18??

Expert Reply:
The tire size P255/55-18 on your 2013 BMW X5 is compatible with the ISSE Hybrid Snow Socks # TCH74 that you referenced as well as the other tire chain products shown on the linked page.
But you'll also want to check your BMW owner's manual for any guidance regarding use of such winter traction devices on your car since there are several versions. Some vehicles can use chains only on one axle or the other; other cars can use chains only on a particular tire size; others must use a special low-profile type of chain known as an S-Class chain. Some vehicles will have all three requirements. When it comes to use of tire chains the auto maker pretty much gets the final word so it is always appropriate to check your manual's index under Tires for any restrictions regarding chain use.
If you are looking for just-in-case chains to keep in the car to meet a legal requirement then a cost-effective cable type chain like # PW2029C could be appropriate. If you plan to use these more than once or twice then a more advanced chain with features like rim protection and automatic tension control. Thule's K-Summit chain # TH02230K66 includes these user-friendly features that will make actual use of the chains in bad weather a much nicer experience.
