Wiring Harness to Operate LED Tailgate Light Bar on 2001 Dodge Dakota 4WD

Question:

Greetings, my son has a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4wd 4.7 cub cab and was given a nice led light bar for the backend. Questions, 1 would Part no. 118329 work? and 2 what about the backup lights-are they involved in this setup. Thanks and you folks have a great website.

Most tailgate light bars use a 4-pole flat type trailer wiring connector, so the vehicle will need to have such a harness. If the connector on your son's light bar uses a 4-pole flat connector like the one in the linked photo, and if the Dakota has no existing trailer connectors, then the part you referenced, T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118329, is an excellent choice.

You can refer to the linked installation video, which shows a 2001 Dakota. This harness installs easily, by plugging in to the taillight connectors at the back of the vehicle. No cutting or splicing is required.

A 4-pole type wiring setup does NOT include reverse lights. 4-poles carry stop light, taillight and turn signals. Some light bars, such as the Rampage # BLS-1103, do include a reverse light function, which requires an additional connection to that lighting circuit at the taillight. Such light bars will have an additional wire, separate from the 4-pole, for that function.
