For your 2014 Honda Ridgeline, if you have the wire connection at the rear bumper just above your exhaust, I recommend the Tekonsha Honda Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring (7-Way) w/ Circuit Protected ModuLite HD Module, # 118253.

If you don't have the trailer connector wiring connector, I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # HM43125. This will give you a 4-way connection at your bumper using quick connects located behind each tail light. Then you will use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires, # ETBC7. This kit will give you all of the wire, connectors, and circuit breakers you need to set up an electric brake controller and convert your 4-way plug.

Then you will need a brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. It is a proportional brake controller which means you will have the same amount of force given to your trailer brakes as you give to the brakes in your truck. This brake controller has a very easy to use LCD screen that takes deciphering codes out of the equation. It runs constant diagnostics letting you know what is happening and if there is an issue. It is adjustable to your driving desires and it has 3 levels of boost. This brake controller will work with the # ETBC7 with the wiring run to your dash or with the factory plug if your truck has it with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Honda # 3070-P.

That will get you all set to pull a trailer with brakes using a 7-way trailer connection.
