Recommended Hub And Drum Assembly For Dexter 5200 lb Axles
Question:
I recently purchased replacement trailer brake assembly for my triple axel toy hauler. I have 5200 lb Dexter NevRLube axles. You gave me the recommended replacement part numbers for the assembly with backing plate complete. I replaced them and it seemed like the drums were in okay shape but the brakes arent operating much better than they were with the worn brakes. I only drove the trailer for about 5 miles using the brakes extra to try to get the self adjustment done. Is this just not enough use to get them adjusted or is it a sign that the drums are too worn and need replacement? If so, can you help me with the part numbers for the replacement drum/hub and the replacement bearing cartridge that is needed since they are pressed into the drum and cant be removed without damage. Please help ASAP as I am trying to figure this out and do whatever is necessary before a tripped planed in a couple weeks. Thank you for your help.

The self adjusting brakes need an initial adjustment when you install them and then the self-adjusting will kick in. If you have already done the initial adjustment, the 5 mile trip should allow your brakes to work properly. If the brakes are not working properly, it may be a sign that your drums assemblies are worn down or it may just mean you need to adjust your electric brake controller settings.
If you want to ensure you have working bearings, seals, and hubs, I recommend the Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly - 6,000 lbs Axles - 6 on 5-1/2 - Nev-R-Lube, # 8-388-80UC3. I reached out to Dexter to confirm this was the right assembly for your 5200 lbs axle and it is a confirmed fit.
If you don't have the wheel bearing grease, I suggest # L11465.
