Recommended Brake Controller And Wiring For 2004 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
Good Morning, I currently own a 2004 Toyota 4Runner with a factory tow package to include a 4 pole hitch connector. Im in the market to purchase a camper trailer with electric breaks. Ive been reading your website and it sounds like the trailer will need a 7 pole connector. Is there any way for me to install a 7 pole connector onto my vehicle and what would you recommend I purchase? Thank you.

I can help you out with the items you need to tow your new camper.
You will need a brake controller and wiring for your 2004 4Runner. The brake controller I recommend is part # 90195. This is one of our most popular because it is easy to install and operate.
Next, you will need part # ETBC7. This plugs into your 4-way trailer connector and with additional wiring will give you a 7-way trailer connector at the back of your Toyota.
I have attached a drawing that shows how the wiring for the brake controller and # ETBC7 are run. I have also attached a link to an iinstallation cideo for a brake controller and the # ETBC7. The vehicle is not the same as your 4Runner but the installation will be similar.
If you do not want to do any drilling to install the bracket included with the # ETBC7 you may want to use a no-drill bracket like part # C57202.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
