Transmission Cooler Options for 2007 Nissan Xterra
Question:
I am wanting to by-pass the radiator tank cooler on my 2007 Xterra. Xterras had problems with oil and water mixing due to radiator leaking into tank. You probably already know this. It already has a factory auxiliary cooler also, but I want to put an additional cooler on it to compensate for the radiator elimination and summer temps when towing. What would you recommend, thanks.

Since you already have a factory-installed auxiliary cooler in your 2007 Nissan Xterra and you want to bypass the leak-prone OEM unit inside the radiator I suggest a fan-powered unit that will allow you the freedom to install it just about anywhere, even in a spot that does not get a lot of air flow. This type of cooler will consistently cool your transmission fluid regardless of your driving speed, great for low-speed uphill towing or for off-roading.
Derale offers their Class IV (high-efficiency) Dyno-Cool Remote Cooler # D12743 that measures 16-5/8 wide x 10-1/4 tall x 3-5/8-inches deep overall.
If you prefer a passive cooler that can install in front of the AC condenser then you can use the Derale # D13503. This unit measures 11 wide x 8-3/4 tall x 7/8-inches deep.
