The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11174 is confirmed to fit a 2005 BMW 3 Series as long as your car is not a convertible. If you have a convertible we do not have a hitch that is confirmed to fit.
This is a Class I hitch rated for 2,000 pound maximum towing weight and 200 pounds maximum tongue weight. It's a custom designed bolt-on hitch and does include a pin and clip. You should know, Curt does require using a support strap, part # 18050, if you're carrying any non-trailer loads like a bike rack or cargo carrier in order to be compliant with their warranty.
For trailer wiring you can use # C59236. The harness has a powered converter to protect your vehicle's wiring and it uses quick splice connectors to tap into the BMW's wiring easier.
The Curt Drawbar # C45510 will provide a rise of 3-/8 inches and will fit the Class I recevier. If this isn't the correct rise you need I've attached a link to our selection of ball mounts for you to take a look at. As well as an article helping you deterine the rise or drop you need. For a hitch bal you'll need either a 1-7/8 inch, part # C40001, or a 2 inch, part # C40018.
