Brake Controller Installation On 1994 IH Tractor Towing Trailer With Electric Brakes

Read instructions on recommendation for installing electrical controller to air brake truck tractor system. This tractor is an 1994 IH. Would it be similar?

It sounds like you have air brakes on your tractor, and you want to pull a trailer with electric brakes. You cqan do this by installing a couple things. First you will need to have a working 7-way to connect to your trailer so that it receives the signal for the brakes. I recommend part # ETBC7 for this.

Then you will need a brake controller in your truck cab like part # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that applies the brakes with the same intensity as the braking action in your truck. To install the brake controller, you will need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. You need to attach the red wire from the brake controller to a circuit that only shows power when the brakes are applied. If you do not have a brake light switch that is usually found at the top of the brake pedal arm, you can use the third stop light wire (CHMSL).

I have attached a drawing that shows how to run the wiring when installing a 7-way like # ETBC7 and also installing a brake controller.
