Can 12V Source Other than Battery Be Used When Installing Trailer Harness On 2017 Lexus NX
Question:
Hi I have a 2017 Lexus NX Gas Model. I found a 12 V socket in the driver side of the trunk. Can I connect the T-One T-Connector to the 12V socket so I dont pull the wire all the way to the battery under the the front hood? Please advise and provide instruction. Thank you.

The problem with attaching the 12V hot wire to any 12V plug or accessory in the vehicle is that the plug you found may be on a circuit with another item in your Lexus.
You really want to make sure the wiring harness is on a circuit by itself. That way it protect the vehicle electrical system if anything happens like damage or a short. There is an inline fuse with the # 118652 harness that protects the converter and the wiring. I do not recommend using any 12V source other than the battery for your wiring.
The installation instructions are included with the harness. You will need to remove the side access panels in the rear cargo area, some cargo trays and also partially remove the plastic threshold cover to gain access to the connection points.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
When running the hot lead wire to the positive battery post you want to make sure you avoid any hot exhaust, sharp edges, or moving parts. For added protection you may want to use some wire loom to protect the wiring. I recommend part # 459075-1. This is 1/2-inch diameter and it is sold by the foot.
Also, to make it easier to remove the trim fasteners in the cargo area we offer a trim pad remover, part # ALL648544.
