Recommended 4-Way to 7-Way Wiring Harness For 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup
Question:
I am purchasing a camper and i need to get my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 wired with the 7 way plug for the camper. I have a flat 4 plug currently. I am not positive what options to look at to convert that to a 7 way round plug.

If your camper has a 7-way trailer connector on it, many times the camper has brakes and you will need to install a brake controller on your 2007 Ram as well as the wiring.
If you are not installing a brake controller and you have a 4-way connector on your truck you will need part # 37185. This plugs into the 4-way you have on your truck and you then run the remaining wires as needed. The Purple wire is used for auxilliary 12V power, or reverse lights if needed, or the reverse lockout for trailer brakes. The White wire is attached to the vehicle frame for ground. The Black wire is connected to the positive battery post with an inline fuse or breaker for 12V power. The Blue wire is run to the brake controller if needed. If any of the wires are not needed, they can be taped up and out of the way. I have attached a photo of the # 37185 and it shows what the wires are used for.
If you are installing a brake controller I recommend part # 90885. This is a proportional brake controller that applies the brakes on the camper in direct proportion to the brakng action of the towing vehicle. You would also need part # ETBC7. I have attached a drawing that shows how the # ETBC7 is installed and I have attached a link to a helpful article that explains in detail how a brake controller is installed on a Dodge truck.
