Recommended 7 Inch Drum Brakes for Boat Trailer Used in Salt Water
Question:
can you recommend any specific 4X4 7inch drum brake for a boat trailer that will be used in salt water? What effect will salt water have on the inner workings of a drum brake?

Expert Reply:
Salt water can cause corrosion on the wheels, brakes, hubs, and other components of a trailer. A good idea is to use parts that are made of stainless steel or aluminum whenever possible. When that isn't possible it's also a good practice to spray the trailer off with freshwater after being in saltwater.
The 7 inch brakes that fit a 4 by 4 flange that we have are # AKEBRK-2R for the right side and # AKEBRK-2L for the left. These are manual adjusting brakes designed to fit an axle rated for 2,000 pounds.
