Side to Side Positioning of a P2 Brake Controller

I know it can be 360 degrees but does it have to be parallel with the vehicle

Proportional brake controllers like the P2 # 90885 cannot be tilted or turned to the side. I have included a picture that should help. If a controller is tilted or turned to the side it can cause the data being fed into the brake controller to be inaccurate and cause too little or not enough braking which can be dangerous.
