Hi, everybody, my name is Andy with etrailer.com. And today we're taking a look at Coghlan's Emergency Signal Mirror. If you are looking for affordable items to add to an emergency kit, whether for boating or camping or roadside emergencies, this might be a good item for you to consider. Let's take a closer look at it. This mirror can reflect light on targets up to 25 miles away to signal that you need help. An item like this could be very helpful if you're in a deserted area, where perhaps you don't have any cell phone service or your cell phone has no charge and you don't have the ability to charge it up.
This targeting mesh grid, the center here helps you to aim light more accurately. It utilizes what's called a Sight-Grid Retro-Reflective Mesh to aim reflected light onto a surface. I took this mirror outside of our studios just to kind of figure out how this works, and we have a nice sunny day today. And the idea is you reflect the sunlight, for instance, onto the ground or onto a surface, or even on something like your hand. And once you have that reflection, then you bring it up slowly to your eye, the center aiming mesh port here, and you'll see that sunlight as a bright spot here in the targeting area.
And then you can begin to use that to reflect the light to whatever surface you're trying to aim the light towards, whether it's a horizon or maybe a plane or something like that. The idea is as you can accurately target the reflection to where you would like it to go. Now, this has what they call a glass mirror reflection within an acrylic casing that provides durability and also gives it the ability to float. It has a hole at the corner of the mirror here like a lanyard. And so you can put this around your neck and it's easily accessible for when you need it.
Also as you can see on the back, there are instructions that are pretty specific, but very easy to follow along on how to accurately use this mirror. Now, just to kind of give you an idea of the measurements here, looking at the length of this mirror, we find that it is sitting right at three inches long and the width is two inches wide and the thickness is a little bit over about a quarter inch thick. Now Coghlan also has a laminated glass emergency signal mirror. If you're interested in something like that, you can find that on our website, either number CG54PR. Well, that concludes our look today at Coghlan's Emergency Signal Mirror.
Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me today..
