Question:
2001 ford f-150, my question is on my truck the oem connector connects right behind the drivers rear tire then comes down and branches off to the rear drivers side taillight then other side travels down to connect too the 7 way connector is this what part 118242 does. Is the small connection eliminated using this harness?

The Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118242, connects in line with the vehicle wiring usually located on the inside of the driver side frame rail between the back tires and the end of the bed. The connection point that you describe sounds very similar.
This harness gets all of the wiring from that one connection point, so after it is plugged in, the 7-Way will be routed to the back of the truck. All of the functions should be coming from the forward part of that harness and all the functions that continue on to the rear of the vehicle will remain intact when the harness is plugged in.
I have included a link to the installation details below along with a video that shows, in part, this harness being installed on a 2001 F-150. There is also a picture of the connection point you can view on the product page for 118242.
