To see if the Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # C18145, will mount to your Volkswagen Tiguan with 1-1/4 Hitch, you will need to take a measurement. You will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin out past the rear of the bumper. If this measurement is less than 6 inches, the Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # C18145, will work on your Volkswagen Tiguan.

If you find that you need more clearance than 6 inches, I would recommend the Tow Ready Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # 63155, which is the same size as the Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier. The Tow Ready Carrier will give you 11 Inches of clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the front edge of the carrier. The Tow Ready Carrier, # 63155 will fit your vehicle as long as the 1-1/4 Inch Hitch is a Class II Hitch.

The Curt Cargo Carrier comes with a pin and clip, the Tow Ready Carrier does not. If you go with the Tow Ready Carrier, you will need Pin and Clip, # PC2. For security of your cargo carrier, you may be interested in the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, part # e98879, which will keep your cargo carrier locked to your hitch.

You may also be interested in Cargo Carrier Light Kit, part # 20174, which will work on the Tow Ready Cargo Carrier. This light kit is great item for safety and you would need to install it if the cargo on the cargo carrier blocks the tail lights on your Volkswagen.

You will want to make sure not to exceed the tongue weight capacity of the cargo carrier, hitch or your vehicle. You must consider the weight of the cargo carrier as tongue weight in addition to the cargo you will be hauling.

I have linked instructions for the Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # C18145. I have also linked a video installation of the Cargo Carrier Light Kit, part # 20174.
