Your 2004 Chevrolet has a connector under the dash in the electrical Junction box. The second slot from the left on the top is the correct connection point for a # 3015-P brake controller adapter. Cut off the black connector, and then splice to the like colored wires coming from the back of the # 39510 brake controller.
The Red wire is wired to the stop light switch coming from the brake pedal switch, the black wire is wired to 12 volt power, the white wire is grounded and the blue wire is the trailer brake feed that goes to the 7-way vehicle end connector at the rear of the vehicle.
When looking at the back of the # 20264 Brake controller wiring harness, with the adapter facing away from you, as if plugging it in, the blue wire should be in the top left position, the red wire should be in the top right position, the white wire should be in the bottom left position and the black wire should be in the left center position.
We have an FAQ article on wiring the Chevrolet / GMC 1999-2006 Pickups, see link, that will take you through the process step by step.
If your truck does not have a factory tow package installed you will need to do some additional wiring. You should have a connector above the spare tire along the driver side frame rail (see link). You can use the OEM Style 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connectors for Ford and GM Trucks, item # HM40975 to install a 7-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle.
If you do not have the factory connector above the spare tire you will need to hard wire a 7-way at the rear of the vehicle. The # 37185 Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole has all of the wires needed to complete the installation, and you should find the wires terminated in a bundle above the spare tire.
You will then need to make sure that the wires under the hood are connected. Under the hood you should have a wire connected to both of the power posts adjacent to the fuse block. If the brake controller hot wire is not connected you can find it under the bracket in the corner of the engine compartment. Remove the bracket and the fuse block covers and you will see the wires that need to be connected. Connect the red wire with a ring terminal on it to the closest post. Your other wires should be ran by the factory.
