Parts Needed to Add Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes to Trailer
Question:
Hi, Im wanting to put brakes on a small 6foot x 12 single axle trailer and I want to use a electric/hydraulic actuator. I have visited your site and have found it very informative and easy to navigate. I was able to see that my existing brake controller is compatible with my actuator choice. That said, I just have a few questions to be sure I have paired items that will work together and to also consider any advise you would provide given your expertise there at E-Trailer. Below I have also provided some trailer towing information that might be useful. TRAILER: size: 6 x 12 single axle hubs: 5 on 4 1/2 wheels: 14, steel axle bracket for 4 bolt brake flange: 4 bolt holes on approx 3 3 3/4inch spacing center to center 12v battery is on board Vehicle: Tekonsha Voyager 9030 brake control Questions: 1 Will the caliper mounting flange align with flange on the axle based on trailer info above? 2 Have I ed the correct brake line kit given my overall trailer size and does it interface directly with the brake kit chosen, or are other fittings necessary? 3 Given the trailer will see some forest dirt road conditions, is this electric/hydraulic actuator a good choice? 4 Im wondering what type of battery i.e: acid, lithium, etc is supplied with your brake-away kits and does it need to be specific to my chosen actuator. Main products being considered: Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 10inch Rotor - 5 on 4-1/2 - Dacromet - 3,500 lbs - K2R35D HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi - HBA16 Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Single Axle - 18foot - 18SI-BLKIT Engager Trailer BreakAway Kit with Charger and Tester - 20099 or Hopkins Trailer Break-Away Kit with Charger - HM20001 Thanks for your efforts in this matter. Im looking forward to hopefully doing business together very soon. Sincerely,

Actually your Tekonsha Voyager part # 39510 is not compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes. You would need to upgrade to a controller that is compatible like the Tekonsha P2 part # 90885.
I attached a help article that covers everything on adding electric over hydraulic brakes to a trailer for you to check out but it looks like you are otherwise on the right track. The Hydrastar # HBA16 is the best all-around actuator as our installers like how quick it reacts to braking signal and how reliable it is.
Another option you have is to order this actuator in a kit that comes with all the parts needed. For that you would need part # HBA16-252-82. This comes with the breakaway kit and enough brake lines for up to a tandem axle trailer as well as needed fittings.
The Dacromet Kodiak Kit part # K2R35D would also be a great option as well would work well as long as your axle has 3,500 lb axles.
