Installation Of Curt Class III Trailer Hitch On 2012 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class
Question:
The installation does not mention anything about the double face tape that originally holds the bumper plater and the chasis. Since the mounting plate goes between the bumper and the chassis, the double-face tape no longer acts as originally intended. Is that tape a seal? Most importantly, may the installation compromise the water seal from that tape? When water enters that channel, may it enter the inside of the vehicle somehow?

I reached out to my contact at Curt to make sure, but that double sided tape is not a sealant. Removing it will not allow any more water into your vehicle. My contact believes it is used for the painting process to keep overspray out of the threads where, but he said you'll notice holes in the frame behind that all over, so it isn't keeping anything sealed or weather proofed. You will not be compromising your vehicle to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2", # C13197.
