Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2016 Mazda CX-5

Question:

is there a harness for my 2016 mazda cx-5 grand touring all wheel drive that does not require running a wire all the way to the battery? if not which harness is a better plug and play using the oem connectors

The hot lead is actually a way to protect the taillight circuits of the vehicle. What it does is allows the trailer taillights to be activated by drawing the power for them directly from the battery and not from the vehicle's taillights. It's actually the safest and best way to do it.

For your 2016 Mazda CX-5 you would want the trailer wiring harness part # 118563 which is a confirmed fit. I attached an install video for this harness for you to check out as well.
