Installing a 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller on a 2005 Ford E-Series Van

Question:

Hi, I looked under the dash and see no plug for the brake controller. Also I looked in the back and there is a 4 wire plug but no other connectors between the driver side wheelwell and fender. It looks like it was not factory wired for a controller. I think I need a 12V for the battery and another one from the controller to the brakes. So how do I tap into the electrical system.

If the 4-wire plug in the back is not a 4-Way flat trailer connector then you will start by installing # C56020 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of your 2005 Ford Van. If it is a 4-Way flat connector you found then you can skip this step and move on to the next step below.

Next you will need installation kit # ETBC7 which will add a 7-Way, retain the 4-Way, and provide the wiring to install a brake controller. The only other item you will need is a brake controller if you don't already have one. I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable.

I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you.
