Recommended Electric Brake Controller on 2010 Volkswagen Touareg TDi
Question:
Im looking for a brake controller for my 2010 VW Touareg TDi. I have heard that the harness for the controller in this car is especially hard to get toand Ive also hear that unless you purchase a wireless unit, you would have to run wires from the front of the vehicle where the harness is located under the dash all the way to your hitchis that correct? My trailer loaded is about 20 below my tow capacity its a 27 foot that weighs about 5700 lbs loaded, and Ive towed without a brake controllerjust fine, I just want a little extra insurance, if that makes any difference as to the model youd recommend. Sorry, but Im new at this, and would appreciate any guidance you can give me. Thank you!!

The installation of a brake controller in your 2010 Volkswagen Toureg is more in depth than most. I've attached a help article that will walk you through the installation process. If you choose to go with a hardwired controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. The P2 is one of our top selling controllers because of its ease of use.
If you'd rather go with a wireless controller the Curt Echo # C51180 is your solution. As long as you have a 7-way trailer connector with an active 12 volt lead there's no hardwiring necessary. The controller plugs in to your Touareg's 7-way and the trailer will then connect to it. Then you control the Echo using your smartphone.
