Recommended Wiring Harness for 2008 GMC Yukon
Question:
Picking up a trailer today with a 4 pin harness. Understand I need the adapter from stock harness on my 2008 Yukon but I also read the trailer wiring needs to be connected under the hood for it to actually work. That true? What am I looking for to do that?

It sounds like you already have the wiring connector for a trailer wiring harness on the back of your 2008 GMC Yukon but you need a 4-way to tow your trailer.
If this is the case, you can use the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Kit # 41155 to install a 4-way at the rear of the Yukon. Another option is to use the Tekonsha Multi-Tow 7-Way & 4 Pole Trailer Connector # 74682 which would give you the option of using a 7-way or a 4-way. If you already have a 7-way you an use an adapter to a 4-way, like # 47345
If your Yukon does not have the factory trailer tow package you can use the Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit # C59496 to hardwire a 4-way.
The only wiring that might need to be connected is if you're using the 7-way, the wires for the 12 volt power and to power a trailer's brakes may need to be connected to their fuses at the power distribution box. I've attached a help article that explains how to make these connections.
