Recommended 4-Bike Hitch Bike Rack for 2015 Ford Edge
Question:
I have a 2015 Ford Edge. Looking at a hitch bike rack for up to four bikes. Do you have any advice in product? I have been reviewing the Yakima Fourtimer but didnt noticed it on your site. Thanks.

Your 2015 Ford Edge could be equipped with either a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch like Curt # C12140 or a 2-inch Class III type like # 75234. You can check the safety sticker on the hitch to see its Class rating and its tongue weight (TW) capacity, or you can measure the receiver opening. An article on hitch sizes is linked.
My favorite rack type for a biking family is the swing-away type such as the Yakima FullSwing # Y02465 which fits 2-inch hitches. This swings over to the passenger side of the car, even when fully loaded with bikes, to give you full rear hatch access without having to take the bikes off the rack. The Yakima Fourtimer is discontinued.
No matter what hitch and rack you use you will want to make certain that the total combined weight load of the bikes and your chosen carrier does not exceed the tongue weight limit indicated on the hitch safety sicker.
