Where Does Wiring Harness 118420 Plug Into on a 2012 Mazda 3

Question:

Mazda 3, 2012 sedan. The instructions in the kit say to connect the harness with the yellow, red, and brown wires into the driver side tail light. There is no harness with those color wires. There is one with a white, red, and brown. The green harness connectors do not match the connectors on the passenger side tail light. The light uses a 4 position connector and the new harness is only a 3 position connector.

The yellow, brown, and red refers to the wires on harness # 118420 for your 2012 Mazda 3 sedan. The wire colors used on the vehicle will not likely be these colors because there isn't a standard color code for automotive wiring.

You will just need to locate the matching connectors on the driver's side that will accept the connectors with the red, brown, and yellow wires. The green wire and its connectors plug in line with the passenger's side tail light wiring. I have linked a video that should help.

If your vehicle has LED tail lights then harness # 118420 will not fit and that could be why the side with the green wires is a different connector set. If your vehicle does have LED lights then you would need to use hardwire harness # C59496.
