How to Choose Arm Position for B&W Companion BWRVK3300 Installed in 2017 Ford F-450 Long Bed
Question:
I just recently traded my 2015 ram mega cab with a short bed to a 2017 F450. I ran a 18k demco hijacker auto slide in the ram. Now that I have a long bed I purchased the BandW companion that fits the puck system. What is the optimal setting for the bandw for my new truck? The forward setting or rearward? Thanks.

Expert Reply:
The B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch that fits your long bed 2017 Ford F-450 Super Duty with the factory rail kit is part # BWRVK3300. In your long bed truck you can probably install the B&W's arms either way. For the maximum clearance use the rear position so long as the king pin does not then sit behind the rear axle. If it does sit behind the rear axle when hitched you'll want to use the forward position. Trailer pin weight that is behind the rear axle will cause excessive sag and could lead to reduced front axle braking and steering perfromance.
