How Much Weight Can Draw Tite Hitch 24878 Carry with Cargo Carrier

I recently purchased item 24878 for my 15 Sonic RS. It is rated at 2,000 gross weight and 200 tongue weight. The tongue weight is the weight on the ball of the hitch. My question is this, I will be using a cargo carrier that is rated at 300 lbs capacity. Will I be able to load the cargo carrier at 300 lbs if need be seeing how the weight is not on any ball , it is on the hitch directly?

You would be limited by the lower figure of 200 lbs for the weight you could carry in a cargo carrier with the Draw Tite hitch part # 24878. You always have to go by the lowest rated component in the setup as the overall capacity.

Tongue weight refers to the vertical weight on the hitch whether it's a ball mount towing a trailer or a hitch accessory like a cargo carrier in your case.

You also have to count the weight of the cargo carrier against the tongue weight capacity. So you would have 200 lbs minus the weight of your cargo carrier. That figure would be how much weight you could carry.
