Best Engine Oil Cooler for 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 Liter
Question:
I have a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab with the 5.7 engine. I am seeing Engine Oil temps from 235 to 255f towing a 6500 lb trailer. I am looking to add an engine oil cooler - there is a post on you site that indicates the Derale 15405 as the right choice. I called Derale and suggested the 15602, but suggested that I call you. Which would be the best choice. Thanks

Both the Derale # D15405 and # D15602 are great options for your 2015 Ram 1500. Since engine oil coolers are not vehicle specific, either cooler will work well for you.
The # D15602 is a stacked-plate design which generally cools faster and more efficiently, which is why it's able to be so much smaller. In terms of efficiency, the stacked-plate design is the best at cooling the engine oil. This oil cooler measures 13 inches wide by 4-9/16 inches tall by 2 inches deep. Since it's smaller in size it can sometimes be easier to find a location to mount it.
The # D15405 is a plate-fin design which is generally larger than the stacked-plate. It is however, not as deep so it may be easier to find a mounting place. This plate-fin cooler measures 9-7/8 inches wide by 9-1/2 inches tall by 1-1/4 inches deep. Plate-fin coolers may not be quite as efficient as stacked-plate coolers, but this cooler will still work well to further cool the engine oil in your Ram.
Between these two coolers, the best option for you will be the one that you have room for in your truck. The installation instructions for both of these coolers are linked for you.
